If my mom gave poetry readings, this is what they would be like. — Nathan Moore

collaborative poem about new orleans

Mention poetry and immediate associations include schmaltzy romance, heady abstraction, self-absorbed angst, and corny affirmations. Scratch beneath the surface and glimpse beyond The Best American Poetryand those dozen poems assigned in lit class to find a burgeoning D.I.Y. culture more reminiscent of indie rock than tweeded, pipe-smoking academia. Frank and his poetry dominate in this community.

  1. Nathan says:

See, collaborative poetry is out there — the movement is growing. And “beyond the boundaries of capitalism”? I hope so. Lord, I hope so.

  2. every time someone says “poetry scene”I chuckle. can’t help it. Poetry is so not a “scene.”
